About Food in Singapore
Hi reader, finally got my mood up for another post about food I had during my Singapore trips. Will be combining the list from both trips in Oct 2019 and Oct 2020. Let's start!
Eggs 'n Things
Heard this shop is famous for their pancakes and the Mt.Fuji size of whipped cream haha. Am not a fan for common banana pancakes (I only like souffle pancakes), so I went for the egg benedicts. Though I remembered either my aunt or my sis ordered the pancakes with the whipped cream. I would say the whipped cream is definitely the highlight of the whole meal, it was so light and fluffy and I have zero feeling of guilt eating up all the whipped cream.
Verdict: 3/5
Whipped cream was really good but other food was okay.
Jamie's Italian
Big thank you to our aunt for bringing us to Jamie's Italian in VivoCity (I just noticed the shop was closed permanently though). The price was on the higher side but the food was actually not bad. We each ordered a carbonara, ravioli and seafood risotto for sharing with polenta chips as a side. Actually we ordered a little bit too much, I remembered we were all feeling quite stuffy after the meal hahaha~
The seafood risotto was really yummy though I had mild allergy reaction after eating it but the dish that I liked best was the polenta chips ❤ Ravioli taste mediocre to me and I can't recall the taste of the carbonara...
Verdict: 3.5/5
Hawker Centre
I decided to not put the name of the hawker centre to avoid revealing where my aunt is staying on the internet. But I guess you can find similar food in hawker centre all over Singapore.
I didn't take photos of all the food we ordered, but at least I got this pic of chai tow kway (θ倴粿). I think this food is similar to char kway ηη³ in Malaysia but in Malaysia it is commonly a savoury dish. The one I tried in Singapore is a mixed of half savoury and half sweet chai tow kway. The black "charred" pieces are not due to burnt but the color of dark sweet soy sauce.
By the way chai tow kway and char kway are radish cake in english? I guess...
Verdict: 5/5 (I really like it haha)
Gudetama Cafe Singapore
Okay my first visit to Gudetama cafe was during my Singapore trip. I have never visited the one in Japan. Again I noted that this Gudetama cafe in Suntec City has closed permanently T____T
First impression after entering the cafe: Cute cute cute cute cute! Literally everything is Gudetama, the table, the cushion, everything! We had a very light meal there as we had plan to have proper meal in other place. So we only ordered a drink and a prawn bisque. The food was not too bad actually, better than what I had expected XD Sorry but I usually expect that food in themed cafe taste bad...
Verdict: 3/5
TWG Tea @ Marina Bay Sands
Okay maybe I'm a noob to some of the people, but my first high tea experience at TWG was once again during my Singapore trip. To be honest, TWG is considered a luxury high tea for me and I can only afford it after I started working (better don't spend parent's money on such luxury right?).
Big thanks again to my aunt for paying the high tea set for me and my sis ❤ Everything is a "wow" for me since it's my first time dining in TWG. After this experience of high tea, I went to TWG again in KL cuz I want to try their food (though their high tea set is more superior to me).
Once we were seated we were given a menu and a teabook. The tea book, which is the menu for tea selection, is so thick that I thought it is a biography novel of TWG owner lol. I think there are more than hundreds of tea for you to choose from which is a big problem for indecisive people. For me I just simply "tembak" one tea to try (during the trip I think I chose the sakura tea).
Our high tea set comes with scones, savoury quiche, macarons (flavors of our choice) and a cake (of our choice from the dessert table). I personally like their scones a lot, especially when paired with their house tea jelly. The quiche and macarons taste really good too! But I don't really like the cake (this is my personal preference as I am very picky on cakes).
Verdict: 4.5/5 (added points that the waiters are very handsome hehehe)
Tiong Bahru Bakery @ Tang Plaza
Aunt brought us to this bakery for breakfast. The shop is really small, hence in no time the shop was so crowded with dine-in customers and working people who came in for take-away. The bakery has varieties pastries, cakes and sandwiches.
I visited again with my kareshi during my second trip cuz I want him to try their food too haha
Verdict: 5/5. πWhat we ordered and they all taste so good

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh
Yea I know people keep comparing Bak kut teh from Singapore and Malaysia saying that how Singapore's bak kut teh is so deviated from the classic bak kut teh. Well I'm not going to talk history here (since I don't know the real origin of bak kut teh as I was not born when it was invented), why not we just consider them as different food with similar origin.
I know Malaysia bak kut teh has a strong herbal soup taste but I have never tried Singapore bak kut teh before. Unexpectedly, Singapore bak kut teh does not have that strong herbal taste, instead it taste more peppery (like ηͺθζ±€), and I like it so much haha~
π We ordered one signature rib soup and one pork stomach soup with fried fritters (fried fritters taste best with bak kut teh, regardless Singapore or Malaysia ones).
Verdict: 5/5
Lady M Orchard Central
We also visited Lady M which is famous for there crepe cake and their checkered cake. But for both my visits I only ordered crepe cake (not a fan of checkered cakes) and I would say their crepe cakes deserve to be their signature cake ❤ Love how thin each layer is and it is not overly sweet.
Adding more points that their ambiance is really good and relaxing.
Verdict: 4/5
Chili Crab
Finally! The signature dish of Singapore! This is the only dish I feel it wholly belongs to and represents Singapore. My uncle and aunt decided not to bring us to those chili crab shops frequented by tourists so we ended up in a shop which I cannot recall the name now (sorry haha).
The chili crab was so huge and taste goooooooooooddddddd. Fried mantou is a must to be paired with crab π
Verdict: 5/5
Teppei Syokudo
I am a huge fan of pokebowl. And when there are plenty of choices for the toppings, I get even excited. How I wish they can open this shop at Malaysia as I always feel that the pokebowl here have too little choices.
As you can see from the pic I did not hesitate to order what I like (salmon, octopus and another fish which I forgot the name, sakura denbu, edamame, ikura, wasabi and most importantly, a whole piece of mentaiko ❤❤❤). Satisfied.
Verdict: 5/5
Sanpoutei Ramen
Visited this ramen shop during my visit to Singapore with my kareshi. I remembered we were just trying to find some shops nearby our hotel for lunch or dinner. Sometimes I will not do a thorough research on what I want to eat for every meals during the trip, instead I will google about it when I am already there. This ramen shop is coincidentally within walking distance from our hotel with a google review of more than 4.0. Plus kareshi and I are big ramen fans so we chose this shop without thinking twice.
I ordered a pork backfat ramen while kareshi ordered a tsukemen. We both were mindblown by how amazingly delicious these ramen were. One of the best ramen I ever had. I'm typing and craving for their ramen now....
Verdict: 5/5 (can I give 100/5?)
JUMBO Seafood @ The Riverwalk
This is one of the tourist-frequented chili crab shop that I mentioned above. During my trip with kareshi we have no car to travel around so we have no choice but to go for tourist-choice restaurant haha. I purchased the chili crab coupon on Klook for cheaper price of the crab, downside is we had to share our table with other customers using the coupons.
Thinking that the crab will not be enough, we ordered one more tofu dish.
Verdict: 4/5 (the crab and tofu taste quite good!)
Friar's @ USS
Went for fried chicken in this shop at Shrek's area with kareshi when we visited Universal Studio Singapore. Luckily we were sharing the meal, I don't think I would be able to finish all chicken by myself. The fried chicken was crunchy and juicy! A heaty but yummy meal.
Verdict: 4/5
Mel's Drive In @ USS
As for my first visit with my sis, we went to Mel's Drive In for burger. Burger taste great but the portion really made me so bloated π I'm glad that I have not experience terrible theme park food in my life yet (touch wood), even in USJ I had decent meals.
Verdict: 4/5
Starbucks Halloween Edition
Got this Halloween edition matcha choco frappe just out of curiosity and seeing that Starbucks is just outside the hotel, plus the beverage itself seemed cute. Taste was soso, a little too sweet for me.
Verdict: 3/5
%Arabica @ Arab Street
I have tried %Arabica when I visited Kyoto in 2018 but am still excited that it came to Singapore! (At the time of blogging this it has arrived in Malaysia as well, would definitely visit it once I got back to KL). My aunt recommended me trying their Spanish latte (thank you!!!) and it taste really good even for me who does not like coffee. Price is on the higher side though.
Verdict: 5/5
That's all for my food blog from my Singapore trips! I am not sure what I will be blogging next yet. But I still have few more trips to blog about!
Praying that COVID can leave us soon enough, I am itching to travel again. Missing those days where we can happily go shopping and cari makan without worrying of getting sick... Stay healthy and stay strong!
