Trip to Bangkok with my girls πŸ’“ Jan 2019

Dear readers,

I'm back again with another travel diary. Feeling emotionally drained knowing that traveling remained not possible at this moment, and will not be in any near future. Been through the depressed stage because of it and I think I kinda found my way out from those dark thoughts now and start to believe that everything might really become better soon. If I get to travel again, cuti-cuti Malaysia wise I would pick either staycation in KL, or glamping in Genting Highlands. If traveling abroad, of course I would choose to return to my second home Japan first XD. I still want to fulfil my virgin Tokyo trip first bwahaha~ Disneyland, please wait for me!

Luckily before all these crazy Covid shit begin, I get to have a girls trip with my lovely ladies to Thailand (Bangkok only though). The girls are my Uni friends and one of the closest gang still in touch till now. We made each other our family members so I am having two sisters, one "popo" (grandma) and one girlfriend (yea one special girlfriend for me www). Oh! Not to forget this is not an all-girls trip as my *"ah gong" (grandpa) tagged along (and thankfully he did). Sadly my "girlfriend" did not join our trip as she is far away working hard for her dream.
*Ah gong is popo's boyfriend

This is a very short trip, only four days and I didn't take much photos. I will explain the reason why later.

Took Malaysia Airline for this trip, I remember the price was just slightly higher compare to AirAisa. Plus MAS flight is inclusive of food and 30kg baggage. But always do your homework and price comparison before you buy the flight ticket.

Here comes the pictures marathon:

Our stay for this trip: The Quarter Residence. And I didn't take any picture of our room! I only IGStory it lol. It is a poshtel and is very friendly for solo traveler. Location wise, it's a stone throw away from the nearest train station, plus two 7-11 nearby, one just few shops beside, another at the opposite. As there were five of us, we get the connecting room all for ourselves.

Room 1: Two bunk beds. I am always skeptical towards bunk beds in hotels as it strikes me as "not comfy" at first look lol. But the bunk beds here were so comfortable!! My two sisters and I stayed in this room, leaving one bed empty though.
Room 2: A Queen size bed for popo and ah gong.

There is common area for you to chill and chitchat with friends, but most of the time we were just chilling in our own room as our room is spacious enough already.

Oh before I forgot, breakfast is also included during our stay and we get to choose from few options such as pancakes, yogurt and on weekends there is special option such as pork porridge! PS: the pork porridge is really yummy sadly we can only have it for one time.

Breakfast at hostel: Pancakes with bananas, orange juice and milk

Special weekend breakfast menu: Pork porridge with fried fritters

We arrived Bangkok at night and after we checked in, we have no idea what to eat as I didn't do much homework for this trip. So we were trying to find what can we eat nearby and luckily we found a small shop in the same row with the hostel. We can't understand the menu at all as it was all in Thai, but at least we still manage to order something based on the picture.

So my first meal in  Thailand was a simple tomyam bihun (looks like clear soup but it was legit tomyum). Simple but delicious πŸ˜‹

Good morning Bangkok!

After breakfast, we went to Pratunam market which my colleague kept telling me that this is the market with lots of delicious street food. We wanted to have our fill of good food here but sadly we were quite filled with the breakfast at the hostel hahaha so we can only share some food.

We were attracted by the yellow mangoes haha

Very sweet and fresh mango juice!

We shared the mango juice (picture above) and also a Thai milktea which I didn't take picture. Sadly after these two drinks I had food poisoning and no longer in the mood and no appetite to eat anything. So to let me rest we randomly went into a restaurant selling pig's trotter and innards. Thanks to them I managed to rest a little abit and recovered a bit of strength after the meal.

We actually planned to visit the Grand Palace after Pratunam Market but we changed our plan as we noticed that there is certain dress code to follow if we were to enter the Grand Palace (plus the weather was too hot for us to be outdoor lol). So we headed to the famous Terminal 21 shopping mall for aircond instead. I was really amazed by the different themes of each floor of the mall and each floor featured a country, so creative!

Let's go to Tokyo shall we?

Just few seconds and we are in Japan now woohoo!

Hi Sumo wrestler

Samurai armor wowww

One of the reason we came to this mall is to savor the famous dessert of this shop: After You. They are famous for their kakigori (shaved ice) and we are here to try it! We ordered a Thai milktea flavored shaved ice and also a French toast to share. Honest verdict: it was yummmmehhhhh!!

The shaved ice actually looked so cute!

Thai milktea for you to drizzle on top

Pretty French toast! Not a fan of French toast but this is yummy I can't deny

After Japan we straight went to London this time:

Ok first time seeing a "real" double decker bus

Hello London bridge

For lunch, we went to the mall's food court and I was pleasantly surprised by the price and the quality of the food. You can get most of the famous Thai dishes with a reasonable (I would call it cheap) price and decent quality here. Plus point that the place is air-conditioned.

Checked the boxes for tomyam, mango sticky rice, pad thai and Thai braised pork leg

After the meal, we decided it's time to head to our next destination. We mostly traveled by Grab but the traffic was seriously terrible...

Look at all the cars stuck in the jam. Our driver took quite some time just to come pick us up

And... when the sky starts to get dark, we finally reached our destination: Chocolate Ville!!

Despite the hot weather, this place did cheer me up a bit because it was so beautiful!

Kinda romantic with the lights at the house, with black swans on the lake

Hey Welcome to Chocolate Ville!

Although it was named Chocolate Ville, the scenery and buildings hardly had anything to do with chocolate XD This place is still worth going for being a worthy photogenic spots with all the European design buildings, lights on at evening time adding more points to the ambiance. The place not only has instagrammable spots, you can find nice Thai or Western food over there. We actually planned to dine there but it was so crowded and we had to give up and had our dinner back at our hostel.

Restaurants all packed

Dinner: Takeaway from 7-11 XD Sorry Malaysia but Thailand has better 7-11 food haha~

Betagen is must buy!

My dinner: Red curry with omelette rice, ehomaki (can't stay away from japanese food even in Thailand lol)

The next morning we went to this breakfast place with a vintage vibe. The food they serve are pretty classic breakfast food with cheap price.

Moo Ping (pork skewer) near our hostel before we head out to other place XD

I still can't believe how I managed to survive at Chatuchak market on that extremely scorching hot day. I remembered feeling myself burning and almost going to faint for few times lol.. the place is too crowded, feeling the oxygen depletion when we were in the crowd.

Under the shade: hot; Out from the shade, fatal heat

Look at the crowd

Just look at the crowd, again

I was rescued by: Coconut ice cream with toppings! XD

Both were yummy and refreshing!

Fresh coconut to quench our thirst

Fast fowarding the days to last night at Bangkok, we went to the famous Asiatique for sightseeing and had our last dinner in Thailand. We traveled there by ferry (the queue was quite long but it was moving fast as well). The place is crowded with people and had various restaurants and shops selling souvenirs and clothes. The landmark of Asiatique is a huge Ferris wheel which the cabin is air-conditioned (perfect for hot weather there). My friends and I wanted to go on and had some cool air but we noticed the ticket was quite expensive.....

(PS: Walking by the riverside there we constantly get the smell of smelly river :(.. Nevertheless this is an interesting place worth visiting)

Although it says "Carnival", it's actually night market selling food (mainly seafood) with huge prawns or lobsters etc. Even saw they selling fresh alligator meat as snacks (the alligator body is there ready to have the meat sliced off...ohno...)

Very pretty Ferris wheel, wish I can go up there next time
Last dinner in Bangkok! Had Pad Kra Pao (basil chicken), coconut milk tomyam, papaya salad and crab omelette. All dishes were delicious!

Bye Asiatique

On the last day, we went to Big C to shop for snacks and souvenirs (medicinal balm/oil and powder etc). Then it's our time to say goodbye to Bangkok and our trip :') Sadly after we arrived back to Malaysia we all fell sick lol. Guess the hot weather and haze just did us in.

Last but not least, would like to say thank you to my girls and also ah gong in making this trip so wonderful and fun~ So glad that we got to travel oversea together for once, and certainly I hope to do it for another time once this pandemic is over πŸ’—
