TRAVEL TO JAPAN (KANSAI): KYOTO PART II 京都篇

You can read part one here.

On day 3 I finally went to the place that I wanted to visit most in Kyoto: the Thousand Torii Gates of Fushimi Inari Taisha!

LOCATION: Fushimi Inari Taisha 伏見稲荷大社

Did you know Torii gates (鳥居) are said to be gateway to the sacred place? Fushimi Inari shrine worships the Inari God, with foxes as the messengers. You can find fox statues at various location in this shrine (which amazed me, I love foxes).

A Torii (鳥居) gate on the way to Fushimi Inari Taisha

Fox statue!

Another one!

By the way, I never knew that in order to see the thousand torii gates, I need to hike up flights of stairs... Why no one tell me that the gates trailed up to a mountain! Nevertheless, the view was worth the hike (I did not manage to finish the hike though, it really requires good stamina!!). Lucky for us, the crowd was not too overwhelming during our visit. At least I got to capture some pictures of the gates with no photobomb.

More mini torii

After we got down from the torii mountain, I bought a fox Ema (絵馬) to write down my prayers and hung it in the shrine. See there're loads more ema in the background.

My Ema

Side note, please do not forget to try their tofu soft serve when you are on the way heading to the shrine. My favorite soft serve by far!!!!! Omg i want to go back Kyoto just for it...

Die die must eat this soft serve...MUST

Made a wish to Omokaruishi (light or heavy stone 重軽石) in Fushimi Inari Taisha. Here's how you do it:

1. Make a wish.
2. Lift the ball-shaped stone with your hands.
3. If it is lighter than expected, your wish is likely to come true. If you feel it is heavier than expected, well...

PS: I felt it was heavier than I expected... sobz..

Omokaruishi

LOCATION: Yasaka Shrine 八坂神社

Basically one of my most favorite shrine to visit. No idea why, I'm attracted to this place (or maybe cuz of the food?)

I love how beautiful this shrine is, with all the lanterns

Closer look

Thankful for this oden stall. Saved us from the freezing winter

Pretty lanterns

LOCATION: Ninenzaka 二年坂

Definitely one of the MUST visit place in Kyoto just to check out the vintage Starbucks which was housed in the 100-year-old wooden building in Ninenzaka. We did have a short break inside to rest our feet and had a hot drinks to soothe our freezing body. But sadly I did not take any pictures inside as it was sooooo crowded and we had to leave as soon as we finished our drinks. There is a tatami seating in this Starbucks. Sobsss that we did not manage to get our turn to try out Starbucks tatami experience. Maybe next time?

I don't quite remember the temple's name. If not mistaken is To-ji? Please forgive my memory loss.

Will end my Kyoto Part II blogpost here. Please stay tuned for the Nara chapter! I might have an extra chapter of food that I had during this Japan trip. XoXo
