Happy 2020 peeps~! Can't believe it is 2020 now, like THE wawasan 2020 is here already. Feeling old Ohmaigawddddd...
Finally going to start with Nara chapter. After being on hiatus for quite some time. Honest speaking I really hope I can finish blogging my first Japan trip in 2018 which was like so long ago. Not to mention I visited Japan again in the same 2018 (which is yet to be blogged) and Okinawa in 2019 as well.
Can't wait to share that I am going to Tokyo very very soon! For sakura-viewing! For Hanami (sakura viewing in japanese lol)!! This will be my very first time in visiting Tokyo, the Metropolitan city of Japan OMG, some more during hanami season (praying hard that the crowd will not kill me). Adding another point: first time taking ANA Airline!
Okay, i guess i got diverted to my excitement of the yet coming Tokyo trip which is in March. Let's go on reminiscing Nara trip first.
LOCATION: NARA PARK
We took a short half day trip to Nara after we checked out from the Airbnb in Kyoto, and before we headed to Osaka for the rest of our trip. Speaking of Nara, the first thing that comes to your mind will be...? Should be...?
DEERS!!! BAMBI!!!
| Bambi said Hi! |
| Look how cute they are! |
| Bambi and I. Pardon my round face |
You get to have some "fun" with the deers as they wander freely around the Nara Park. Do beware that not all of them are "friendly". You get to buy some senbei (crackers) to feed them. If you have food of any kind on your hand, I can guarantee you will be the center of attraction of the deers. Even people like me who did not join in the feeding got knocked away by the deers (ouch!).
For extra fun: bow to the deer before handing them the senbei, they will bow to you too! Deers are so polite in Japan lol.
LOCATION: TODAI-JI 東大寺
After being so exhausted playing with the deers, we walked to the nearby famous temple in Nara: Todai-ji which housed one of the largest bronze statue of Buddha in Japan.
| Life size palm of the Buddha statue |
The temple was so crowded with tourist and I only managed to get a picture from the side. sobz..
| The magnificent 15 meter Buddha statue |
| Another statue by the side |
LOCATION: NAKATANIDOU 中谷堂
Next we went to Nakatanidou, a famous shop in Nara selling yomogi mochi (a kind of glutinous rice mochi with red bean paste in it). Fortunately we got to watch the mochi pounding (a exciting and quite dangerous(?) kind of performance where one staff will pound the mochi while the other staff will flip the mochi while the pounding continues!)
| Crowded as expected |
| Freshly made Yomogi mochi (check out the price list!) |
| Our mochi! Sooooo delicious! |
After that we stopped by the Lawson store nearby the Nara station before we took the train to Osaka. And i noticed there was hakoszushi selling beside the Lawson store!
Hakozushi (箱寿司) is box-pressed sushi in which the sushi will be pressed into a rectangular shape.
| Spot those square boxes of sushi |
| Our hakozushi! Look how "rectangular" they are (except for the sushi rolls which are still in their common round shape) |
| Kagome tomato juice. Never miss one day of Kagome juice when I was in Japan |
| Had some quick bites too before we boarded the train. Salmon roe and red salmon onigiri are the best! |
| Love their hand-drawn memo to remind the customers. Very creative! |
Will end the Nara post here. I hope I can blog about Osaka very soon as it will be a rather long blogpost (i can foresee from the list of pictures). See you guys soon! xoxo
