A Visit to Osaka's Kitchen: Kuromon Market in Winter

Hey readers, thanks for visiting my blog.

Fast update: 2020 is truly disastrous now, with COVID-19 pandemic hence there will be no more sakura hanami Tokyo trip for me. Was really disappointed and sad to have to cancel the trip when we have been looking forward to it since last year. One small happy part would be we managed to get full refund for almost everything of the trip. Hope everyone can stay safe and healthy, hope this pandemic can be over soon. Japan please wait for me ❤

Hence for the time being, I will continue blogging about my previous trips lol (reminiscing the good old days XD )

As most of you know, Osaka is the "Kitchen of Japan". And the "Kitchen of Osaka" would be Kuromon Market! This will definitely be on the list for first timer in Osaka.

It was super crowded during my first visit to Kuromon Market, even though it is freezing winter. But this will never stop us from finding some good food.

LOCATION: KUROMON MARKET 黒門市場

The entrance

Check out the crowd
You can find varieties of fresh seafood

Shop specializes in serving tuna. Will blog about this in another blogspot

Fresh scallops and sea urchins (Uni)!

Grilled beef is available here too

Okay let's start with what we ate during our visit:

1. Fresh mixed salad (kelp, cucumber, octopus and more).

This is definitely the best appetizer to start our gluttonous journey in Kuromon Market. The salad is fresh, slightly tangy and it tastes so so so good~

2. 大阪と言いえば。。。タコ焼き!{When you think of Osaka, you think of Takoyaki!)

3. Strawberry daifuku. Daifuku is a kind of mochi with red bean paste filling (they do have different filling such as chocolate, custard cream etc). Side note: the strawberry during winter time is the sweetest! This is by far the sweetest strawberry that I have ever tasted.

4. Kobe beef skewer.
This skewer...is .. so.. damn.. expensive! This one skewer with four pieces of kobe beef cost 3000yen (~RM120). But it taste so..damn..overwhelming..mindblowingly..good!! This was the first time I tasted kobe beef, and it literally melted in my mouth, like butter.

If you ask me if I would pay another RM120 to get this skewer, I probably would.. XD

5. Fugu sashmi (puffer fish sashmi)
Okay so we wanted to have a bite of Fugu, just to cross it off from our bucket list and we get to post it on IG lol .. Not sure if this is really how a Fugu should taste like, but it taste like chewy plastic to be honest..

And we all survived LOL (no tingling or numbness from the tetrodotoxin).

6. Caramelized sweet potato
I actually did not try this one haha.. was bought by another friend. But it looks quite good(?)

7. Grilled scallop with butter and soysauce
Another MUST-TRY in Kuromon Market. Basically there are too many stalls selling this so we just randomly picked one to try. There are different sizes of scallops, which cost different price as well (highest being 1000 yen from what i remember). They will open up fresh scallop upon your order, grill it on the grilling net with burning coal, add in butter and soysauce in between the grilling and you get a fragrant mouth-watering grilled scallops.

We got the smaller size scallop (I think it's quite big already for me) priced at 500 yen.

8. Unagi on dashimaki tamago

Classics, confirmed yummy-ness LOL

9. Ootoro sushi (Fatty tuna belly sushi)
Yay finally I got to try the popular ootoro-sushi (you can get it in Malaysia too but I think it would be best if you get the freshest in Japan). Ootoro is the most fatty part of the tuna belly, you can get medium fatty tuna (Chu-toro) if you prefer it to be less "oily". But of course, getting the most fatty part means.... it will melt in your mouth!!! Yumz!

Speaking of Ootoro, I had another ootoro-sushi which is much more mindblowing than this one which I will blog about it in another post.

10. Last but not least, sake-flavour ice cream.
Okay this is just purely to satisfy our curiosity of how a sake ice cream taste like HAHAHA.

This end my post on visit to Kuromon Market! God I miss Osaka so much it is by far my favorite place in Japan (okay I know I didn't visit much in Japan but I really enjoy Osaka the most).

See you all soon in next post (I hope), bye for now!
